Live well, work well

Tanya office studio effect version `2_edited_edited.jpg
Life and work are full.

The pace is fast, the expectations are high, and the space to pause, reflect, and recover is often missing.

Balanced Consulting supports people and teams live and work well — creating conditions for renewal, resilience, and sustainable ways of being, especially in demanding roles and complex systems.

Who this is for

Many people arrive here not because something is “wrong”, but because something needs tending.

Balanced Consulting works with people who care deeply about their roles and responsibilities — often in health, disability, environmental, government, and not-for-profit settings, but also in caring and community roles that may not be formally recognised as work — who are beginning to notice the cost of constant pressure.

You might be:

  • Carrying responsibility for others while running low yourself

  • Navigating ongoing change, uncertainty, or cumulative stress

  • Wanting to live and contribute in a way that is sustainable, not just effective

You don’t need fixing.
You need space, perspective, and practices that fit real life

The experiences we offer are designed to meet people where they are — providing space to pause, reflect, and rebuild capacity in ways that fit real lives and real systems.

Our Offerings

Balanced Consulting offers a range of experiences designed to support renewal and sustainable capability over time — for individuals, teams, and communities balancing care, responsibility, and ongoing pressure.

These include:

  • Workshops — practical, reflective sessions for individuals, teams, and organisations

  • Leadership retreats — space to step back, reconnect, and recalibrate

  • Book clubs and facilitated conversations — shared reflection on living and working well

  • Custom experiences — shaped to the people, context, and moment

Each experience is designed to be:

  • Thoughtful rather than overwhelming

  • Grounded in real-world pressures and constraints

  • Focused on how change is sustained over time, not just inspired

Start gently: Tastings

Not sure where to begin?

Tastings are short, free five-minute videos that offer a brief moment of pause, reflection, or perspective. There’s no sign-up pressure and no sales funnel — just something you can take or leave.

They’re designed to:

  • Offer something useful straight away

  • Help you sense whether this approach feels like a good fit

  • Support small moments of renewal in busy days

Articles

If you prefer reading, the Articles section offers reflections on themes such as living and working well in complex systems, burnout and overwhelm, sustainable leadership, serious illness, grief, and renewal.

These pieces are reflective rather than prescriptive — written to support thinking, sense-making, and perspective, rather than to tell you what to do.

About Us

Balanced Consulting is a small, values-led practice focused on helping people and communities live and work well in demanding and complex contexts. The work centres on renewal, resilience, and sustainable ways of being — supporting individuals, teams, and groups to navigate pressure without losing what matters.

Balanced Consulting was created by Tanya Gawthorne, a facilitator and coach who has spent many years working alongside people in fast-paced, high-responsibility environments, while also navigating complexity and change in her own life. Tanya’s approach is grounded in practical experience and a deep respect for real-world constraints — shaped by both professional practice and lived experience.

She is particularly interested in what helps people move from constant reacting to more considered responding, especially when life is demanding, uncertain, or disrupted — creating space to think, relate, and act with greater steadiness over time.

Looking for strategic planning or facilitation?

If you’re seeking strategic planning, facilitation, governance support, or organisational strategy, that work is delivered through our sister company, Sustainable Consulting.

Sustainable Consulting focuses on:

  • Strategic planning and review

  • Facilitation and stakeholder engagement

  • Governance, policy, and systems thinking — particularly in environmental and public-purpose sectors

The two practices are closely aligned in values and approach, while remaining distinct in focus.
